The signaling system of a station is controlled from the Relay room, which contains vital signaling gear and a huge amount of cables play a very important role in safe train operations.
Eastern Railway led by General Manager, Mr. Amar Prakash Dwivedi, in an endeavour to augment safety of the Relay Rooms, has planned for Digital Lock and as a pilot project has introduced Password / OTP based digital lock system at Dankuni Relay Room in Howrah Division.
To ensure safety of Human life and train operation Howrah division has taken initiative to replace pad-locks of signal staff with Digital locks in the Relay room of Dankuni station as a pilot, which will automatically unlock as soon as the fire alarm triggers. On duty staff after opening the lock under his custody will take action as deemed fit to extinguish the fire. In normal situations, signal staff will get access by casting his authorization id with a PW/OTP based system.
Salient features:
- The digital lock of the relay room will automatically open if the fire alarm panel in the relay room senses fire
- Only authorized staff can open the digital lock; those user names are saved on the server.
- The doors of the relay room can be unlocked using Android applications, and data, including a time stamp, will be saved on the server.
- Every time when the Relay room door is opened, an SMS is generated and sent to all concerned officials for information.
