FESTIVALS AND EVENTS : TWO DAYS COLOURFUL THENZAWL CALLING FESTIVAL HELD AT MIZORAM

KOLKATA, 25 MAY 2023:

Thenzawl is a town situated at a distance of 95 kms from Aizawl and is in the heart of Serchhip District. Thenzawl and its surrounding places offer some of the best tourist attractions Mizoram has to offer. The only Golf Resort and Wellness Spa in Mizoram are located here with state of the art facilities.

Thenzawl Calling Festival is part of the project Thenzawl Calling funded under Resolve@75 Theme of AKAM by the Ministry of Culture, AKAM Secretariat. Under the project Self Guided visitor App for Thenzawl was developed with augmented reality multimedia and geolocation for a highly interactive and engaging visitor experiences.

Thenzawl Calling Festival was organized on 19th- 20th May 2023 through the joint efforts of Tourism Department, DC Serchhip and SDO (Civil) Thenzawl. The event aims to popularize Thenzawl as an attractive destination with lots to offer. Pi Nazuk Kumar IAS, DC Serchhip graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Events & Activities:

1) Band Competition:

The Festival includes Musical Evening with Band Competition wherein bands from Thenzawl and the nearby villages participate in the Competition.

1st Prize : Tinas Band Thenzawl
2nd Prize: Libra Night Lunglei
3rdPrize: Rubber Band Horti College

Individual prize:

Best vocalist- Laldinthari , Dinthar branch ktp band
Best Bassist : Isaak K.lallawmkima , Libra night
Best keyboardist : PC Malsawmzuala, Libra night
Best guitarist: Hlutea Ralte, Tinas Band
Best Drummer: C . Lalrintluanga , Libra Night

2) All Mizoram Amateur Golf Tournament:

The first Golf Tournament in the Mizoram “All Mizoram Amateur Golf Tournament” was held on 20th May 2023 wherein 12 golfers compete in the tournament. Mizo golfers from different parts of India came to participate in the tournament. Golf putting games for visitors was also conducted by the Mizoram Golf Association.

3) Ethnic Culinary Competition:

Ethnic Culinary Competition was also held as part of the Festival wherein 5 team of 2 members each compete in the competition. This was done to promote local ethnic cuisines.

1st Prize -Womenloom Lovers Self Help Group
2nd Prize- Lelte Self Help Group
3rd Prize – Om Om Self Help Group

Consolation prizes:

*Varak Dil self Help group and Group B model Self Help Group

4) Cultural Dance Competition:

Cultural Dance Competition was also held for the locals wherein students, NGOs and dance groups participate in the competition.

3rd: Bualdim Cultural Club Thenzawl

5) Handloom & Handicraft Exhibition cum Sale

Handloom & handicraft exhibition cum sale was also organized by SDO ( Civil) Thenzawl during the entire festival. Different kinds of handloom products as well as cane and bamboo products from Thenzawl were displayed for sale by local weavers and local artisans.
