Kota, the coaching and educational hub of the country is emerging in a big way as a popular tourism destination these days with lots of makeovers and developments, informs Mr. Vikas pandiya, Deputy Director of Tourism in Kota.
In an exclusive free wheeling chat with The Travel and Tourism Times, at the sidelines of the TTF Kolkata at Biswa Bangla Prangan today, Mr. Vikas Pandiya has said that a heritage river front is developed on 6 kilometres on both sides of Chambal River, the largest tributary of River Yamuna at cost of Rs.700 crores.
The prototypes of world famous heritage buildings have been set up on the river front which after beautification and redevelopment has been attracting a lot of toursits. The tourists can actually realize the bliss of solitude by sitting here for some time. The place has served many as a spot for picnic for its panoramin views. River Chambal is known for being the abode of many water species. Sitting on cliff the tourists can also catch a glimpse of the crocodiles, turtles etc.
“The hanging bridge in Kota, also known as the Kota Hanging Bridge, offers breathtaking views of the Chambal River and its surroundings. It’s a popular spot for photography and enjoying the natural beauty of the region, said Mr. Vikas Pandiya.
A popular tourist hotspot is the Garadia Mahadev Temple in Mukundra Tiger Reserve : Located at an altitude of around 500 feet from mean sea level, lies a gorge through which runs the river Chambal. Gigantic cliffs lie on either sides of the gorge. The winds blowing seem to be chanting the Shiv stotras in your ears to arouse the feeling of devotion in you. Garadia Mahadev Shrine lies on one of the cliffs. The rituals are performed by a local priest who generally stays in the shrine till around 5:30pm. Late nights are not recommended. The place is picture perfect like a painting made by God himself.
Nearby place for tourism destination is Bundi which is very famous for paintings, race course, port. The Bauris for storing waters are also found here.
Jhalawar, the historical city once called Brijnagar is known for its rich natural wealth, flora and fauna. A hill and water fort, Gagron Fort is very famous here, also known as water fort it is sorrounded by water from three sides.
Chandrabhaga River- Chandra Bhaga Festival is held every year and the cattle fair organised here is comparabale to the famlous cattle fair in Puskar.
“In Sorsan sanctuary in Baran the black bugs are found is large numbers. For shopaholics the famous Kota Doria sarees and the Kota Kachoris are a must try. September to March – April is the best time to visit Kota and its sorrounding tourism destinations,”said Mr. Vikas Pandiya.
Kota has already emerged as the coaching capital of india for various competitive exams since years and every year about four lakhs of students come to Kolkata to take coaching. There is a Chambal Tourist Bungalow run by RTDC, he said.
The Mukundra Tiger Reserve and the newly notified Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan- the ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary are linked with Sawai Madhopur Tiger sanctuary and the tigers of that forests are migrating to these two forests.
In Rampura Bazar tourists can buy the Kota Doria sarees and meet the Kota Doria saree weavers at Kaithun Village. The hing kachori of Kota are famous worldwide.
Kota is a rialway junction and located at a distance of about 200 kilometres by road from capital Jaipur and the neraest airport is also in Jaipur.
