NEW DELHI, 2 MAY 2023:
One more step towards green India.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari in a series of tweets informed that in February and March 2022 we conducted a transplantation project along the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg, Maharashtra located on the Baramati-Indapur section of NH 965G .
During this project, we successfully transplanted 1,025 Banyan trees to the edge of the Right of Way (ROW). Currently, 870 of the transplanted trees (85%) have survived , he added.
Mr. Nitin Gadkari said the transplanted trees are thriving and displaying healthy growth with the development of robust foliage every day.
He said the project has not only helped in preserving the environment but has also provided a pleasing visual experience for the visitors traveling along the road.
Replying to his tweet many people has urged the union minister to make it as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in India’s all upcoming highways constructions projects.
To construct thousands of kilometres of six to eight lane highways under Bharatmala and other schemes, lakhs of trees are being felled to create space for the mega infrastructure projects leading to disturbances on the environment and ecosystem.
“Congratulations sir,for creating an ideal by conserving the environment along with development. Also, take a decision at the central level that while widening every national and state highway in the country, tree plantation is compulsory and it should be mentioned in agreement also,” teets social activist and engineer Sandip Patil.
