PVR CINEMAS, the operator of the five screen multiplex at the Aerohub at Chennai (MAA) International Airport has planned to move to court challenging the order of Airport Authority of India (AAI) to shut down the multiplex. The name of the multiplex is ‘PVR Aerohub’ and became fully operational from March this year.
Recently, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) sent a notice seeking the closure of the Multiplex operator, PVR Cinemas , which is functioning in the Aerohub of the Chennai airport.
In February this year, the six storied Aero Hub and the multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility were inaugurated by the Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia in the Chennai airport.
The PVR Cinemas launched the multiplex in the Chennai airport and PVR became the first Multiplex in the country to operate within the airport premises.
The PVR Multiplex has five screens which have a total seating capacity of accommodating 1155 people at a time. The screens also have the latest cinematic technologies with 2K RGB+ laser projectors, REAL 3D digital stereoscopic projection for crystal clear, razor-sharp, ultra-bright pictures and advanced Dolby Atmos high-definition immersive audio.
The Domestic and International passengers who arrives and departs from the Chennai airport have been using the five screen Multiplex for entertainment and the Multiplex is also allowed for the people residing in the surrounding locality of the airport.
Most of the area in East Wing of the MLCP are presently occupied by the outsiders who come to wtach movies and are not air passengers. About two months ago, a woman came to watch a movie with her two kids and jumped from the top and comitted suicide.
This has led to a lot of problems for both the inbound and outbound air passengers and ground staffs of Chennai ( Maa) International Airport, after which AII, the operators have decided to direct closure of the multiplex few days ago.
