KOLKATA, 13 NOVEMBER 2024:
To further reinforce passenger safety, with a special emphasis on the security of women passengers, Eastern Railway’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) has taken significant measures, including routine patrols and extensive CCTV surveillance across numerous stations. CCTV monitoring has emerged as a crucial tool in providing live streaming of various locations at stations, enabling real-time oversight from control rooms, where prompt actions can be taken to address any unforeseen incidents or actions that might threaten the dignity and safety of women.
Currently, CCTV monitoring is active at major stations like Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata, Asansol, Malda, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, and Durgapur. To further enhance crime prevention and security, the Signal & Telecom Department of Eastern Railway has installed an additional 568 CCTV cameras across 20 new stations in October 2024. This expansion covers stations including Bangaon, Ashokenagar, Bira, Gobardanga, Gopalnagar, Guma, Majhergram, Maslandapur, Thakurnagar, Rampurhat, Bolpur, Barharwa, New Farakka, Jasidihi, Baidyanath Dham, Panagarh, Raniganj, Bhagalpur, Chittaranjan, and Madhupur.
Upon successful installation by Signal & Telecom Department, these CCTV setups were handed over to RPF personnel following comprehensive training sessions. This training has equipped RPF staff with the skills to operate and monitor the CCTV systems, ensuring optimized surveillance and response capabilities.
In the current FY 2024-25 up to October, Eastern Railway has completed the installation of a cumulative total of 1,625 CCTV cameras across 65 stations. This large-scale surveillance network exemplifies Eastern Railway’s commitment to creating a safer environment for all passengers, with a focus on crime prevention and women’s security.
