The ‘Nausena Shaurya Sangrahalaya’, India’s first-of-its-kind naval museum, currently under construction in the state capital Lucknow, has entered Phase 2 of development with an approved funding of Rs. 5 crores. This museum, being developed in collaboration between the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department and the Indian Navy, aims to highlight India’s glorious maritime history, from the Indus Valley civilization to the modern-day Indian Navy.

The Minister of Tourism and Culture, Jaiveer Singh, personally conducted an on-site inspection to review the progress of the museum’s construction. During the visit, he closely examined the quality of work, adherence to timelines, and the future utility of the museum, while also issuing necessary directives to the officials. On this occasion, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Avnish Kumar Awasthi, Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram, Director Tourism and Managing Director UPSTDC, Esha Priya, were present, along with other senior departmental officials.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in October 2023. Spread across 8 acres near the Ekana Stadium, the museum will offer immersive exhibits on ancient Indian shipbuilding, naval battles, and modern naval warfare technologies. Among its most anticipated features will be the display of decommissioned naval assets such as INS Gomti, along with associated equipment including missiles, torpedoes, and cannons. A state-of-the-art digital interpretation center is also being curated to enhance public understanding of the Indian Navy’s role and evolution.

Phase 2, which involves critical construction and curation work, is now progressing with renewed momentum under the directive of the Minister of Tourism and Culture. Emphasizing the importance of timely delivery, the minister stated, “This museum is not just a tribute to India’s maritime heritage, but also a symbol of our cultural pride. It will reinforce Lucknow’s position on the national heritage map while boosting tourism and creating new employment opportunities for the youth.”
He further added that the naval museum will serve as an educational and cultural hub for students, scholars, and history enthusiasts alike. It is expected to significantly enhance tourist footfall in the region and generate economic benefits through job creation and allied tourism services.
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department continues to maintain strong administrative oversight to ensure swift and quality execution of the remaining project phases. Once completed, the museum will become a landmark destination, not only for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire nation.
