A thought-provoking seminar titled “Resurrecting Bengal’s Film Industry” was held today at Nandan III, bringing together industry luminaries to discuss revitalizing Bengali cinema.
Organized by the Santiniketan Society for Youth Empowerment (ssye.org ), the event featured insightful discussions on transforming the regional film industry into a contemporary, profitable entertainment sector while preserving its artistic legacy.
Key Recommendations from Industry Leaders:
– Mr. Anjan Bose (Aurora Film Corporation) emphasized creating 100-seat mini cinemas across district towns with government support, coupled with affordable ticket pricing and professional distribution networks.
– Mr. Ashoke Viswanathan (Former Dean, Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute) advocated for a comprehensive Film Policy offering grants, tax incentives, theatre time guarantees, and subsidies for young filmmakers.
– Mr. Raja Sen (Veteran Filmmaker) highlighted systemic challenges, stressing the need for transparent, corruption-free distribution models and equitable remuneration systems.
– Mr. Robin Ghosh (President, Santiniketan Society for Youth Empowerment) outlined multi-pronged reforms: modernizing cinema halls, upgrading studio infrastructure, integrating new technologies, and adopting professional management practices. He also underscored digital technology’s transformative role in production, distribution, and revenue collection.
