As a step further towards fulfilling the commitment of Union Railway Minister for developing Shrirampur station as an iconic facility in this area, Ministry of Railways has accorded approval for inclusion of Shrirampur Station of Eastern Railway in Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw during his recent visit at Shrirampur area on 7.3.2026 stated that the redevelopment of the Shrirampur railway station will be carried out keeping the city’s ancient culture and historical identity in mind. He further added that the construction and development plan for the Shrirampur Railway Station will be designed keeping in view Shrirampur’s rich cultural heritage, ensuring that the station’s appearance reflects the historical identity of the region. After this announcement by the Union Railway Minister just by a week Railway Ministry accorded approval for transforming Shrirampur into Amrit Bharat Station. This reflects the promptness and zealous endeavor of Union Government towards bringing development projects for West Bengal.

Shrirampur is a historical city in West Bengal’s Hooghly district located on the west bank of Hooghly river. Shrirampur has a rich Indo-Danish cultural heritage as once upon a time this area was utilised as a trading centre for the Danish colony. Shrirampur is also renowned for hosting one of the India’s oldest Rathajatra Festival at the Mahesh Jagannath temple and this Rathajatra is widely participated not only by the people of Shrirampur area but also people from far away areas in West Bengal come here to witness the event. One of the oldest Press of India was also established at Shrirampur depicting the academic excellence once the city brought to Bengal.

The announcement for bringing Shrirampur into Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is another such landmark step which will transform Shrirampur station into a local cultural hub as well as an economic hub with the modern facilities and amenities packed in the station development plan.
