VARANASI | 6 APRIL 2026
Under the banner of Vikramotsav 2026, a grand theatrical presentation based on the life of Emperor Vikramaditya was organised in Varanasi from April 3 to 5, highlighting his exemplary governance, justice, and legacy for the wider public. During the event, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board curated an immersive cultural experience through a series of vibrant stalls that showcased the state’s rich heritage, tourism offerings, art forms, and local cuisine.
These exhibits provided residents of Varanasi and visiting tourists with a unique opportunity to connect with the essence of Madhya Pradesh. A specially designed Tourism Information Pavilion served as a key attraction, offering detailed insights into prominent destinations such as Khajuraho, Sanchi, Orchha, and Maheshwar. Visitors also explored exhibitions featuring Bundelkhandi paintings, tribal art presentations through theatrical storytelling, and an array of handloom and handicraft displays, all of which received enthusiastic appreciation.
Modern technology added an innovative dimension to the experience. Through VR (Virtual Reality) boxes, visitors were able to virtually explore Madhya Pradesh’s iconic tourist sites, creating a realistic and engaging connection with these destinations. Additionally, digital presentations highlighting the spiritual significance of Mahakaleshwar drew significant attention. The food section, branded as “Maa Ki Rasoi”, offered a delightful culinary journey featuring traditional dishes from Madhya Pradesh. Popular items included the Malwa Thali, Indori Poha-Jalebi, “MP ka Swad” combo, and Kulhad tea, which attracted large crowds throughout the event.
As part of the celebrations, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board also staged the grand “Vikramotsav Mahanaatya”, a theatrical depiction of Emperor Vikramaditya’s valor, justice, and public welfare. Complementing this were vibrant folk theatre performances, which brought alive the diverse cultural traditions of the state.
