In recent celebration of International Labour Day on 01 May, the leadership team at Sun Siyam Olhuveli undertook a purposeful Gemba Walk, stepping into the heart of daily operations to gain a deeper understanding of the people behind the guest experience.

Rather than observing from a distance, leaders immersed themselves in real roles across the resort. Director of Human Resources, Ahmed Shazeen, stepped behind the bar as a barman, engaging with guests and experiencing the pace of frontline service. Operations Manager, Ibrahim Baasith, joined the pastry team, working alongside culinary colleagues to appreciate the precision and creativity required in the kitchen. General Manager Hassan Adil and Director of Operations Mohamed Ali took on the role of Chef de Partie, joining the kitchen brigade and experiencing the coordination and intensity that define culinary service at the resort. Across the island, other leaders supported housekeeping rounds, security inspections, watersports operations, kitchen preparations, and engineering tasks, each stepping into the rhythm of the resort.

The experience was shaped by open conversations and genuine curiosity. Leaders engaged directly with team members, asking thoughtful questions about daily challenges, ways to ease operational flow, and responses when issues arise. These exchanges provided valuable insight into day-to-day realities, strengthening understanding and trust across teams.

“This was not about observing processes, but about listening, learning and showing respect to the people who bring our resort to life every day,” shared Hassan Adil, General Manager at Sun Siyam Olhuveli. “International Labour Day reminds us that our greatest strength lies in our people, and this experience allowed us to walk alongside them. Today is a reminder that leadership is not just about direction, but about being present.”
