TEZPUR ( ASSAM) | 1 JULY 2026

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, officially felicitated three prominent personalities from the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh during the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations at Meghna Stadium in Tezpur, Assam.

President of North East India Tourism Confederation and tourism veteran Tsering Wange, Padma Shri awardee Dr. Anshu Jamsenpa, and Everester Tongchen Nimsonga were presented with a prestigious, special military brooch. The ceremony took place in the presence of Lt. Gen. VMB Krishnan (General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command), Lt. Gen. Neeraj Shukla (General Officer Commanding of Gajraj Corps), and other senior military dignitaries.

Tsering Wange, an alumnus of Sainik School Imphal and President of the North East India Tourism Confederation, expressed deep gratitude to the Indian Army. With over 25 years of experience in the tourism sector, Wange emphasized that this recognition serves as a powerful catalyst for youth empowerment, education, and social cohesion across remote, strategically critical frontier regions.

“The relations and camaraderie between the army and civilians have improved significantly over the years,” said  Mr. Tsering Wange. He actively urged the youth of the Northeast to join the Indian Army, highlighting unity, discipline, and resilience as foundational values for the future generation.

The high-profile event mirrors the growing synergy between civilians and the armed forces, reminiscent of the ‘Army Day at Home’ celebrations in New Delhi, which brought together India’s top leadership, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 26 December 2022 by the invitations of the then Army Chief, General Manoj Pande.
