The Bihar Tourism Department recently hosted a high-profile interactive session with a 28-member Thai delegation as part of its “Lotus Triangle—Travel to Land of Enlightenment” Familiarisation (FAM) Tour, aiming to position the state as a premier global hub for cross-border Buddhist tourism.
The high-level meeting took place in the state capital after the delegation concluded an extensive tour of Bihar’s iconic Buddhist circuit, including Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, and Vaishali. The event brought together senior government officials, international delegates, and leading Indian travel operators to exchange business ideas and strengthen bilateral tourism ties.
Addressing a meeting with local tourism stakeholders along with the Thai delegation, Mr. Rajesh Roshan, Joint Director, Directorate of Tourism said that Bihar is always ready to welcome Buddhist tourists. The Buddhist circuit is unparalleled in Bihar, where countless works of development have taken place. The Government of Bihar is working towards promoting cross-border tourism, creating the best travel packages, improving direct connectivity and establishing Bihar as a prime destination for international travelers to Thailand and Southeast Asia.
The Thai delegation jointly said that this effort by Bihar Tourism is a big step towards increasing the global tourism reach of India and Bihar in particular. In this, on behalf of various organizations of the tourism sector of Bihar, it was said that it is a pleasure to be a part of this initiative of Thailand-Bihar Tourism. Various organizations working in the tourism sector actively participated in the B2B interaction and exchanged tourism products, ideas and business opportunities with the delegation from Thailand. Tourism stakeholders said that this initiative of Bihar Tourism provided an excellent platform to explore new avenues of tourism cooperation, business partnership and destination promotion between Thailand and Bihar.
They extended special thanks to the Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar, for organizing the Patna event and providing a valuable platform for local businesses to connect with the Thai travel trade. Recognizing Bihar’s vast potential—driven by its rich Buddhist heritage, improved infrastructure, and deep spiritual connections—Bihar Tourism remains committed to future initiatives that promote tourism across Buddhist nations. Following the event, a 28-member Thai delegation concluded their visit to Bihar, which was organized as part of the “Fame Tour of Lotus Triangle—Travel to Land of Enlightenment.”
