The travel sector has become more and more technologically advanced, as its clients are capable of navigating through various travel websites, booking services, loyalty and payment platforms, as well as customer service channels without any trouble. The fact is that even if the experience is fully connected in practice, travel companies still employ disintegrated data.
The travel companies collect an immeasurable amount of information about bookings, cancellations, customers, payments, preferences as well as about operations they have performed. This information is kept in separate databases, which prevents teams from receiving full information and using it effectively. This problem does not relate to gathering more pieces of information; instead, it deals with enabling the information to be easily accessed within the organization. The integration of ERP, CRM, and operational systems can help the travel industry create a perfect IT infrastructure.
For instance, if a company integrates its customer data with booking, finance, inventory, and service data, all units will have access to the information from the common database.

During the journey of a customer, many stages go back to the process of booking. It is important to note that the journey of a customer does not end at the moment of booking; it includes searching, researching, booking, payment process, pre-trip communications, completion of the trip, and post- trip communications. With connected information, travel companies can understand all of these stages of the journey process. Networks can completely change the manner travel companies regulate their activities. By retaining the current knowledge of conditional transactions, clients’ demands, payments and complaints, the company is capable of locating the troubles beforehand.
Rather than waiting for the information that exists only in different tables of data or within separate systems, managers will have an opportunity to get fuller data on the operations that take place and make decisions accordingly. Just being in possession of great amounts of data does not turn into success automatically. The next stage involves transforming data into knowledge that can be acted upon. Analytics and artificial intelligence can play a role of identifying bookings trends, preferences of the customers, fluctuations of the demand and possible operational problems. The received data will allow making better planning of resources, marketing efforts and pricing processes. Now, the issue should be whether “What data we have” or “What this data allows us to do.”

Developments in travel technology will depend on how suitable companies connect their data, systems and people. Creation of a connected travel company does not mean creation of a sophisticated system. It is important that all the systems are working together and provide smooth sharing of information. In the case of travel firms, this is a transformation that is going to provide advantages both for clients and company staff members. Clients will be capable of obtaining more convenient and personalized services, and employees will see more and act faster. As the competition for potential consumers becomes the one of experiences, moving from unreliability of
data to connection of journeys is likely to become a basis for creating a flexible and client-oriented enterprise.
