Real estate and hospitality developer JK Urbanscapes Developers Ltd on Monday said it has partnered with global hospitality group Minor Hotels to develop a 70-key luxury retreat in Darjeeling, West Bengal, with an investment of Rs 110 crore. The project, Anantara Retreat Darjeeling Hills, will be developed within the 849-acre Tindharia Tea Estate and is scheduled to open in 2031. The investment will be made by JK Urbanscapes in partnership with Kaushal Kumbhat, the company said in a statement.
The development will mark the debut of Anantara Retreats, a luxury hospitality concept under Minor Hotels’ Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand, in India. The retreat will comprise 35 suites and 35 tented villas, along with a spa, fitness centre, swimming pool and 750 square metres of meeting and event space.
The project will also offer wellness programmes and tea-related experiences, including access to a tea factory and garden, integrating the estate’s tea-growing heritage into the guest experience. The Tindharia Tea Estate is located around 40 km from Darjeeling town and approximately 33 km from Bagdogra International Airport.
Abhishek Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Urbanscapes Developers Ltd, said the project aims to create a luxury hospitality destination that reflects the landscape and tea-growing heritage of the region. Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International, the parent company of Minor Hotels, said the retreat would combine the experience of staying within a working tea estate with wellness programmes and immersive activities centred on tea.
Minor Hotels operates more than 640 hotels, resorts and branded residences across 67 countries, according to the statement. JK Urbanscapes Developers Ltd is part of the JK Organisation and operates in real estate and hospitality development.
