The capital city of Patna is soon set to gain a new cultural and commercial identity. An ultra-modern “haat” (marketplace) is being constructed on the western side of the Sabhyata Dwar near Gandhi Maidan. This haat, being developed at a cost of ₹48.96 crore, will be a three-storey emporium.
The modern haat will include underground and surface parking facilities. It will feature a three-storey emporium, two restaurants, a gaming zone for children and youth, a fire fighting system and fire alarms for safety, lifts, a water tank, CCTV surveillance, solar power generation systems, and street lighting. The entire structure will be enclosed with a boundary wall.
The project is being implemented by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited, with a completion target of 24 months.
This initiative aims to showcase the heritage of ancient Magadh.
Modeled after the “Mithila Haat” in Madhubani district, this haat will feature famous art forms of Bihar such as Madhubani paintings, Bhagalpur’s Manjusa art, Patna’s Tikuli paintings, and Sikki craft. Additionally, it will showcase bamboo and cane crafts from Samastipur, clay and ceramic arts from Darbhanga, leather shoes, belts, and bags, Sujani embroidery from Muzaffarpur, stone craft from Gaya, and embroidery from Nalanda — all of which will be major attractions for visitors.
