A special meeting was held on Friday between the Embassy of India in Cambodia, the Union Ministry of Tourism, and Bihar Tourism to promote tourism in the Buddhist Circuit. The meeting was conducted via video conferencing with participants from Cambodia.

At the Tourism Department office located in the Main Secretariat, Secretary Mr. Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, Special Secretary-cum-Director Mr. Udayan Mishra, Joint Director Mr. Rajesh Roshan, and other concerned departmental officials participated in the meeting.

During the session, Secretary Mr. Deore delivered a PowerPoint presentation addressing officials of the Cambodian government, investors from the tourism sector, and other stakeholders. He stated that Bihar is the most significant center of Buddhism, where Lord Buddha not only attained enlightenment but also illuminated humanity across the world from this sacred land.

Secretary Mr. Deore provided detailed information about major Buddhist sites located in Rampurwa, Lauria Nandangarh, Areraj, Kesaria, Vaishali, Patna, Bhagalpur, Vanavar (Jehanabad), Nalanda, Rajgir, and Bodh Gaya. He emphasized that the state government is continuously developing tourist facilities at these locations.

In Bodh Gaya, a corridor is being constructed with the support of the Central Government. In Kesaria, replicas of all stupas are being developed. In Vaishali, the Samyak Stupa has been constructed. In Patna, the Pataliputra Karuna Stupa and a Vipassana Center have been established. In Rajgir, Venuvan has been beautified, and in Bhagalpur, Vikramshila University is being redeveloped.

The Secretary invited Cambodian tourists to visit Bihar for travel plans ranging from ten to thirty days. He mentioned that the Tourism Department of the Government of Bihar is working on a plan to open a Cambodian restaurant in Bodh Gaya.

He assured full cooperation to all initiatives undertaken by the Cambodian government, whether organizing familiarization (FAM) trips, planning mega events, or participating in travel trade fairs. He also expressed interest in launching joint branding initiatives with the Cambodian government, including programs such as “Know Bihar” and a special tourism initiative like “Angkor Wat to Bodh Gaya.”

Representatives of the Cambodian government responded positively to these proposals.
