Amid Kerala gaining global acceptability as a safe and secure woman-friendly destination, a woman foreign traveler, on a solo eight-week tour of eight Indian cities, has lauded Kerala as the “most respectful, the safest and cleanest” place in the country, giving the state the highest score of 9/10.

Kerala is “the calmest, cleanest, the most respectful state I visited. Locals are polite, transport feels safe, and the vibe is completely different. If you’re new to India, start here,” said Emma, an avid traveler and vlogger, on Instagram.

Emma’s journey took her from Delhi to Kerala. Her candid take on Indian cities has sparked a lively discussion on social media, many terming it as a broader conversation about how India’s diverse cities could feel vastly different, especially to solo women travelers.

Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas said Emma’s candid account of her travel through Kerala comes against the backdrop of Kerala fast gaining global standing as an experiential destination for women travelers.

“Kerala Tourism has, of late, rolled out a slew of woman-friendly tourism initiatives, which have received accolades from both foreign and domestic tourists. These comments impart greater confidence to Kerala Tourism’s woman-friendly initiatives” the Minister added.

Meanwhile, Delhi-based Rinzu Susan, who shared her experience of visiting Kerala on social platform, was all praise for the warmth and hospitality of the local community and one would never encounter anything creepy or unsafe.

“As someone raised in Delhi, I had my fears travelling as a solo traveler in Kerala. After my first trip alone, I did two more, one alone and another with a female friend. Never encountered anything creepy or unsafe. Kerala is undoubtedly, the safest place for women in India,” she said.

“This wasn’t my first time in Kerala. Earlier in 2023, I visited Varkala, Trivandrum and Kovalam. But this time in 2025, I visited Suryanelli, a great gem, 21 km ahead of Munnar. It was just me and my female friend, not once it felt like we were unsafe. The local people were friendly and reached out to us to help. No one tried to look at me uncomfortably, as if I was some commodity. And, this is how it should always be. Yes, there was some language barriers, but to be honest the people there tried their best to convey their thoughts even in broken Hindi.”She said she felt “safe, secure and protected” during her visit to Kerala.

“The city along with the villages are super clean and I did end up seeing the beautiful and diverse culture. Kerala offers everyone something or the other. We didn’t feel bored at all. There is something for everyone….” she added.

As Rinzu Susan’s post on Reddit went viral, it was featured on India’s leading media platform Times Now as well.
