KOLKATA 20 APRIL 2023:

The Association Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has organised a seminar on  Healthcare 5.0 : Enhancing Healthcare Capabilities/ Medical Value Travel at Hindustan International Hotel in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The program started with the welcome address by ASSOCHAM given by Mrs.Preminder Jeet Kaur , Senior Director, ASSOCHAM East & North East. The program was followed up by Keynote speakers from different healthcare sectors like Pharmaceuticals, Hospitals and Medical Value Tourism. The ASSOCHAM knowledge report was released which showed the statistical data of how well the Indian medical sector is doing in the context of the global medical sector.

There were three main sessions held with a broad variety of panellists present from different medical, technology and tourism sectors. The first Plenary Session was the :

Leaders Session – Discussion on Creating Smart Hospitals , Patient Centric Models. The session was led by Dr.Ajay Swaroop , Chairman Sri Ganguram Hospital , New Delhi.

There were other eminent speakers on the panel who talked about how creating smart hospitals is the way to the future and is needed with the development of the country. It is needed to support and give efficient treatment to the patients travelling from their home countries to our hosting countries. It is important to have specialised care and that to be identified in the earlier stages it is important to carry on with research.

The Plenary Session transitioned to the next session with broad topic of :

Public Private Partnership for Research & Innovation and Strengthening Pharma Sector.

The session was led by Dr Purnendu Roy, Founder CMD, Genesis Group of Companies. This session focused on the Public- Private Partnership Model (PPP) for R&D. The eminent speakers focused on how it is important for both the public and private sector to be well organised to communicate internally so that the services can be provided efficiently to the inbound patients. They voiced their concern for the government sector to be more communicative and help in the process. India is a very well put destination for Healthcare services and it has most low – cost models with high quality of service and medical professionals. Research work for better medical services are in the process and many have also come into play and are being practised but to make it more efficient it is important to bridge the gap between the public and private sector. I would like to quote from a point Dr Roy stated that professionals from both the sectors should not be afraid to voice their ideas, observations and opinions. There should be debates carried out when there is an opportunity given because through this the issues are highlighted and process to solution can be taken.

After the wonder sessions the program was broken for lunch and networking. The hospitality

of the Hindustan International Hotel was well maintained , hygienic and efficient.

After the lunch break Plenary Session III resumed with the topic of :

Medical Value Tourism, Empowering Patient Support System with Tech and beyond:

This session was led by Dr.Ketan Parikh , Founder ,Pyramed Telemedicine LLP. This session came on with a fresh light of knowledge and innovation that is taking place in the medical sector. This session had eminent speakers on the panels talking about telemedicine (Mr Arimdam Sen ) and also about Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) for affordable healthcare ( Mr Surajit Mukherjee ). The session focused on how healthcare can be made much more efficient with the use of telemedicine and AI. In the dynamic changes in the world taking place it is important to keep up with the dynamic changes and actually be ahead one step.

With the help of increasing technology, medical services are made easier and more effective. In this sector with help of AI and telemedicines many illnesses can be prevented at an earlier stage. We know that there is upcoming technology available now that can detect breast cancer even before a lump can be felt. Mr. Bilolaksha Das , Hony. Secretary Eastern India Chapter represented , Travel Agents Federation of India ( TAFI) at the ASSOCHAM programmee. Mr. Bilolaksha  Das was asked to talk about the growing opportunities of medical tourism in the East. When coming to the aspect of Medical Tourism the medical aspect is carrying every possible way to make it easier for the patient.

Tourism and travel consultants are very important part as well that Mr. Bilolaksha  Das focused on his talk. In medical tourism, as the aspect of medicine is important, the aspect of tourism is highly important . When dealing with cases that are sensitive in nature, travel professionals need to be trained to handle it with empathy and give the best solutions and make the trip for the patient party as hassle free as possible.

Mr Rajib Roy pointed out that when coming to the part of tourism and hospitality , as professionals we are trained to give our clientele a happy experience and it comes into our job descriptions to make them have experiences that are stress relaxers even at a hard time.

The program ended with commemorating the panellists and with a group picture. The event was beautifully organised with various different topics in mind and it was really great to share the space with such important professionals who are working forward to achieve the goal that we as travel agents are also here to achieve. It is eye opening to see such new technology coming into the picture but at the same time i would like to pint out something. Behind technology there is a human presence and in the sector of medical tourism as technology and AI make it more organised and easier for the public to access. It is important to have human touch. Human to Human interaction is highly needed in this field which can only come with proper coordination, training and Psychological Grooming of Travel Professionals. At the end of the day AI and technology is also made by humans. So it is important to train our professionals to look forward to the future.
