PRESIDENT DROUPADI MURMU  GRACES THE OPENING OF TULIP GARDEN AT 173 YEAR OLD RASHTRAPATI NIWAS MASHOBRA IN SHIMLA

NEW DELHI, 18 APRIL 2023:

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu graced the opening of Tulip Garden at Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra in Himachal Pradesh today (April 18, 2023).

The Tulip Garden, which will be open to the public from April 23, 2023 along with the main building of Rashtrapati Niwas, its lawn and orchards, features a range of tulip varieties, including Strong Gold, Denmark, Velemark, Jumbopink and Laptop.

Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Prakash Shukla and Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu accompanied her.

Smt. Droupadi Murmi will stay at Shimla till 21 April during  her four day official tour. The opening of the Tulip garden in Rashtrapati Niwas Mashobra in Shimla is expected to provide further boost  in tourism in this extreme summer conditions in the country .

There are three Rastrapati Bhawans in the country – Delhi, Shimla and in Bengaluru. The visitors have to book online through Shimla Rastrapatai Niwas official website.

The Rashtrapati Niwas , which was earlier  known as Viceregal Lodge, is located on the Observatory Hills of Shimla in  the state of Himachal Pradesh. It was formerly the residence of the British Viceroy of India. It houses some of the most ancient articles and photographs going back to the times of the British period in India.

The Viceregal Lodge was designed by the  British architect,  Henry Irwin and built in the Jacobethan architectural style during the  Lord Dufferin’s tenure as Viceroy.  The  construction started in 1880 and was finished in 1888. Lord Dufferin started staying in  the lodge from  23 July 1888.
