NEW DELHI, 5 SEPTEMBER 2023:
IndiGo, India’s preferred carrier, is pleased to announce the launch of direct exclusive connectivity between Delhi and Itanagar, starting from October 02, 2023. The airline had previously initiated operations from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar, on November 28, 2022, with its inaugural flights connecting Itanagar to Mumbai and Kolkata. This new connection further strengthens regional accessibility within the country and promotes ease of travel for both business and leisure travelers by offering additional flight options.
Mr. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo said, “We are pleased to introduce direct connectivity between Itanagar and Delhi, in addition to our direct flights between Itanagar and Mumbai as well as Kolkata. Through this new route, we aim to significantly enhance domestic connectivity and accessibility between the commercial-metropolitan hub of the national capital region and the enchanting land of dawnlit mountains, Itanagar. This initiative is expected to drive multi-fold growth in the region, fostering employment opportunities, trade, tourism, and overall economic development. Over the years, IndiGo has remained committed to increasing accessibility in the northeast, establishing connections to seven out of the eight states in the region. Our commitment persists in providing affordable, punctual, courteous, and seamless travel experiences across an extensive network for our valued passengers.”
Itanagar’s new airport, formally known as Donyi Polo Airport, is only 15 kilometres from the state capital. Increased access to Itanagar, often known as the land of dawn-lit mountains, will increase tourist footfall at attractions such as Ita Fort, Jawaharlal Nehru Museum, Namdapha National Park, and Tawang, a lovely town nestled between the Gudpi and Chong-Chung Mi ranges. Visitors can visit the glacial lakes of Sangetser and Sela, meditate in the Taktsang Gompa, or climb Gorichen Peak for spectacular views of the town below. Other important tourist places include the Gekar Sinyi or the Ganga Lake, craft centre & emporium, Zoological park, Indira Gandhi park, Polo park, and the Buddhist temple.
