The regulator of civil aviations of India,  Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is one of the most stern actions in recent times have warned Air India and directed to immediately remove its three top executives responsible for crew rostering after finding some recent lapses.

The incident has created a stir in the aviation sector in the country as the Maharaja is already facing probe by multiple committees and agencies after its Boeing  787-8 Dreamliner,   AI 171 Ahmedabad to Gatwick ( London) Airport crash on 12 June ,  in which 241 passengers on board have been killed and one passenger had miraculously escaped  unhurt in the most  horrific plane crash tragedy in recent times.

A show cause notice was also served for violating the pilots flying hour norms. Both the pilot and the co pilot of the flight had been killed in the crash at Ahmedabad minutes within after the flight took off.

Air India has already confirmed that after DGCA directives all these top officials have been removed from their jobs and the Chief Operations Officer (COO) will now onwards directly monitor and look after the issue of duty roster of cabin crews, Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC) in the interim period till further decision has been taken.

The DGCA has also given severe warning that any further lapses in future will result upto  suspension  of licenses,  withdrawal of operator permissions  besides  imposing huge penalty.

Within ten days DGCA has directed Air India to respond to what actions have been taken in writings after getting the latest  directives .

On Friday, DGCA has issued a separate show cause notice to Air India seeking its reply for flouting the FDTL norms for two pilots of  Bangalore – London flights on 16 May and 17 May 2025.

The three top officials are Choorah Singh, Divisional Vice President, Pinky Mittal, Chief Manager  of Crew Scheduling, Payal Arora, in charge of crew scheduling and planning. Internal disciplinary proceedings will be initiated by Air India against these trio.

Air India is passing through its toughest times ever as the flight seat bookings have fallen drastically in the past few days. The bookings have dropped upto 20 percent and the fares have also dropped upto  15 percent.
