KOLKATA, 13 JULY 2024:

The Thai Aiways is planning to introduce wide bodied aircraft in the coming days from the narrow body aircraft flying from Kolkata to Bangkok presently as the city of Joy has immense potential both in leisure and business travel, said Smt. Natpawee Rattanakat, Team Lead ( India) of Thai Airways.

The Travel and Tourism Times had an exclusive interview with Smt. Natpawee Rattanakat at the sidelines of the TTF Kolkata 2024.

Thai Aiways like previous years is participating in the Kolkata Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) 2024, the biggest travel and tourism annual carnival in Eastern India and has given a stall along with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Mr. Sajid Ahmed Khan, Eastern India marketing head of Thai Aiways is also present on the occasion.

One daily flight from Kolkata to Bangkok  narrow body  aircraft operates at the moment and connects destinations for the Kolkata passengers to popular Thailand’s tourism destinations like  Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khin Kaen, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchatani, Krabi, Phuket, Hat Yai besides Bangkok.

Kolkata is the gateway of the East and the scope will further increase with the upgradations of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in the coming years.

It is also an important transit route for the Buddhist Circuit tourism in India. The plan of introducing a wide bodied aircraft as demanded by the travel agents are being actively considered and may be during the winter or before that will be introduced.

Smt. Natpawee Rattanakat  further said that presently three daily wide bodied flights ( except on Monday, which have four flights) are operating from New Delhi  and ten flights a week  from Mumbai. Flights are operating from Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad  and have  recently started from Cochin in Kerala to Bangkok three flights a week . From August five flights will operate.

The exemption of Visa to India tourists by the Thailand government has also played a major role in increase of all categories of tourists from different destinations of India to Thailand.

Thai Airways is also taking part along with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)  in road shows in major cities of the country as sales promotional activities in India.

More than 50 years ago Thai Airways, the national carrier of Thailand started its business in India from Kolkata. During the breakdown of the Covid -19 global pandemic breakdown the flight services remained stopped.
