Goa has been conferred with the Winner – Best Romantic Destination at the prestigious Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards 2025, further reaffirming the state’s position as one of India’s most admired and loved travel destinations. The award was presented at a distinguished ceremony held at Nandiya Gardens, ITC Maurya, New Delhi, on 16th December 2025. The award on behalf of the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, was received by Ms. Swati Prabhu Shastri, who is currently working at Goa Sadan on deputation from the Education Department. This recognition highlights Goa’s timeless appeal, from scenic seaside settings and intimate hospitality experiences to its vibrant culture and seamless balance of luxury with laid-back charm, reaffirming its place among India’s most loved destinations.
Reacting to the recognition, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, said “This recognition by Travel + Leisure India is a proud moment for Goa and a testament to the state’s timeless appeal. Goa has always offered more than just picturesque landscapes, it offers experiences rooted in culture, warmth, authenticity, and a deep sense of place. As we move forward, our focus remains on regenerative tourism, ensuring that romance, leisure, and sustainability go hand in hand, benefitting both visitors and local communities.”
Sharing his perspective, the Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, stated, “Being recognised as the Best Romantic Destination reflects the consistent efforts of the Department, tourism stakeholders, and local communities in curating meaningful and high-quality experiences. From heritage stays and wellness retreats to immersive cultural encounters and responsible tourism initiatives, Goa continues to evolve while preserving its unique identity.”
Now in its 14th year, the Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards is a marquee annual celebration recognising excellence across the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors. This honour celebrates Goa’s enduring allure, its scenic coastline, intimate hospitality experiences, vibrant cultural fabric, and the seamless blend of luxury with a relaxed, laid-back charm that continues to captivate travellers.
