Anybody who receives an award feels happy, but to receive an award for one’s literary works that too in the land of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore is really something special and I feel honoured says Jagdish Dan Ratnoo, who is all set to receive the prestigious Rachnakar Karmayogi Nani Gopal Chakraborty Smirti Award 2023 in Kolkata tomorrow.
This is the first visit of the 63 year old writer of Dasouri in Bikaner in the cultural capital of the country, Kolkata. The Rajasthan Information and Cultural Department has also organised a felicitation ceremony in honour of the writer at its office on Saturday.
Talking to The Travel and Tourism Times, Mr. Jagdish Dan Ratnoo dedicated this award to his parents and his family and said that knowledge and writing skills are in the DNA of his entire family. My grandfather was a living encyclopedia. After his superannuation from the education department three years ago, he has concentrated fully to uplift and spread the unknown and untold Rajasthani literary works through translation throughout the world. Life began for him as a social worker in his initial days.
“ My first book Charan Samaj Ki Gaurav has been my biggest work so far and was published in 2014 in Hindi language. It was the first documented complete literary works on the Charan society and has details of 18 shakti avatars, saints, social workers and lyricists. Many people have received their Ph.D from my book. In 2018, I edited the book Akshar Akshar Aag, also in Hindi and then Triveni Tat. In 2023, my fourth book – Bharatiya Sanskriti. Dharam Aur Paryavaran Sangrakhshan is a translation in Rajasthani language of the Hindi work of Dr. B.B.S.Kapoor. Two more books – Rajasthani Kabya Sangraha and Rajasthani Laghu Bangya Kathayein will be released soon,”he added.
There is very close relationship between Rajasthan and Bengal, Tagore is the greatest inspiration to all the writers of India. Kolkata has produced some of the greatest sons of the country – Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramhansha, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay etc.
“ The bonding has become stronger due to Swami Vivekananda and Satyajit Ray. Throughout the year so many bengalis visit Rajasthan for tourism till today. The teachers of all the royal families used to be from Bengal. Bengal is known to us as a cultural and educational hub,”he added.
Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo, assistant director of Rajasthan Information and Cultural department in Kolkata said that Jagdish Dan Ratnoo has enriched Rajasthani literature and his office feels proud to facilitate such a person who is so humble and lives an ordinary and simple lifestyle but is such an erudite scholar. “ We all feel proud of him for his achievement and he has been selected for this prestigious award by the writers from Kolkata. Very soon the new edition of his famous book on Charan Samaj ki Gaurav will be published and we wish him a long and healthy life,”he added.
Mr. Vivek Sharma, Chief Editor of Rajasthan Patrika in Kolkata said that the effort of Mr. Jagdish Dan Ratnoo to depict the real life stories and pictures of the Charan Society through his book is a highly commendable job and is still a treasure for the researchers of Rajasthani literature.
Smt. Neha Chatterjee, second officer of Rajasthan Information, Culture and public relations office in Kolkata was also present during the press conference arranged on the felicitation ceremony of Jagdish Dan Ratnoo on Saturday.
