The union healtrh minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has today evening confirmed that the two people dued in Kozikhode yesterday has died due to Nipah virus and a district wide healtrh alert has been issued.
The centre has issued an advisory after a high level meeting and a team of experts are rushing to Kozikhode. They will assist the Kerala government in management of the virus infection.
The first death occurred in 30 th August and the second death on Monday. Both have tested positive.
Two persons have died in unidentified diseases in a hospital in Kozikhode in Gods Own Countyry, Kerala raising suspiscion of Nipah Virus out break in the state once again.
Four more people are still admitted in the hospuital including three children.
The blood samples have been sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for confirmations. One of the patient have been admitted at the ICU. The age of the two children are 4 and 9 years.
In 2018 and in 2021, Nipah virus has broken out in Kozikode district of Kerala. 23 people have fallen ill in 2018 and out of them 18 people have died. It was suspected that the virus outbreak occurred through the fruit eating bats in Kerala.
The victims are suffering from headache, vomiting, muscle pain, high fever, headache, sore throat etc.
The Kerala government has urged the people to wear masks and has set up a control room. Smt. Veena George, Kerala Health minister said that 16 committtes have been formed and to control the infection doctos are nurses are directed to wear the PPE Kits.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has in a video message said that the state government has taken the disease seriously and trying to control it soon.
The first case in South India was reported way back in 19 May 2018 in Kozikhode.

Nipah is a zoonotic virus and is spread to humans through animals, according to World Health Organisation (WHO). It can also be caused from contaminated food or from human to human. Amongst animals pigs gets mostly infected by Nipah virus.

Kerala health department sources said that 158 persons are in the contact list of the first deceased, while the victim’s placae Mangalad and surrounding places to be cordoned off.
In 2018, Malappuram was the second worst hit district of the state after Kozikhode.
It is the largest city in the region known as the Malabar and was the capital of the British-era Malabar district.
