Madhya Pradesh has once again marked its strong presence on the global cinema stage. After the internationally acclaimed Laapataa Ladies, another feature film shot in the state, Homebound, has been selected as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026). Last year too, Laapataa Ladies was nominated for the Oscars.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav congratulated the entire team of the film on this proud achievement. Dr. Yadav said, “It is a moment of unparalleled pride not only for the film fraternity but also for the entire state of Madhya Pradesh that a film shot here has been chosen for the Oscars. The Madhya Pradesh Film Tourism Policy 2025 has made filming easier by introducing a single-window system, a transparent approval process, and attractive financial incentives. The filming of Homebound in the state and its international recognition is proof that Madhya Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a major global shooting hub. This achievement reflects the state’s rich culture, natural beauty, and commitment to the arts.”

The Chief Minister further stated that this accomplishment will serve as an inspiration for all young filmmakers of the state who aspire to give wings to their dreams. The selection of Homebound marks a significant milestone in Indian cinema, showcasing Madhya Pradesh’s artistic and cultural legacy on the global stage. He expressed confidence that Homebound will achieve remarkable success at the Oscars as well, bringing glory not just to India but also to Madhya Pradesh.

Entire Filming of Homebound Carried Out in Bhopal and Surrounding Areas:
A major portion of Homebound was filmed in 2024 in the natural, cultural, and urban settings of Bhopal and its nearby regions. The film’s international acclaim is a testament to the state’s film-friendly policies and the suitability of its locations for diverse storylines. Significantly, Homebound is produced under the banner of Dharma Productions. This is the fifth Dharma film to be shot in Madhya Pradesh. The producer is Karan Johar, and the director is Neeraj Ghaywan, whose earlier film Masaan also won wide appreciation. The cast includes Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles.

New Tourism Policy Simplifies Filmmaking:
Madhya Pradesh’s new Film Tourism Policy has made the work of producers and directors much easier. The single-window system has streamlined the permission process, while subsidies have encouraged filmmakers to choose Madhya Pradesh as their shooting destination. Since the introduction of the Film Tourism Policy, more than 350 films and web series have been shot in the state. So far, over ₹24 crore in financial assistance has been provided to 12 Hindi films, 1 Telugu film, and 6 web series. The Government of India has also honored Madhya Pradesh with the award for “Most Film Friendly State.”
