The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), together with strategic partners, affirms Phuket’s full readiness to host the Global Sustainable Tourism Conference (GSTC) 2026 from 21 to 24 April 2026, marking a clear step in strengthening Thailand’s position as a leading sustainable tourism destination and trusted hub for international conferences, while delivering long-term value for local communities.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said, “Hosting GSTC 2026 marks an important milestone to elevate standards, strengthen knowledge exchange, and reaffirm Thailand’s commitment to responsible tourism that benefits both people and the environment. This reflects TAT’s mission to position the Kingdom as a world-class sustainable tourism destination by creating lasting value. Through cross-sector collaboration, international standards, and responsible tourism management, we are advancing an ecosystem where growth and sustainability go hand in hand.”

Joining Ms. Thapanee in presenting Thailand’s readiness are Mr. Teeraphong Chuaychoo, Vice Governor of Phuket Province, and Mr. Randy Durband, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), reflecting the close collaboration between TAT, GSTC, Phuket Province, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), and the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation (STDF).
Mr. Teeraphong said, “On behalf of Phuket Province, it is an honour to host GSTC 2026, reflecting Phuket’s readiness as an international conference destination. Comprehensive preparations have been undertaken to ensure safety, convenience, and high environmental management standards, while maintaining the well-being of local communities. We are confident the conference will deliver lasting value for Phuket and Thailand.”
In preparation, Phuket Province has implemented a coordinated operational plan involving tourist police, provincial administration, and public health authorities, covering venue management, visitor safety, and support services. Ongoing efforts in waste management, public space maintenance, and sustainable urban management further reinforce Phuket’s position as a quality destination.

Mr. Randy Durband said, “We are delighted to gather in Phuket for GSTC2026, in a destination that holds a prominent place on the global tourism map. Phuket provides an important backdrop for bringing together tourism leaders and stakeholders from around the world to share knowledge and advance more sustainable practices across the sector.”

GSTC 2026 will be held across Royal Phuket City Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, and Kata Thani Beach Resort and Spa. Under the theme Sustainable Hospitality, Resilient Cities and Communities, and Carrying Capacity and Visitor Distribution Management, the conference is expected to welcome approximately 600 delegates from more than 30 countries, including policymakers, international organisations, tourism leaders, academics, and sustainability experts.
The programme will address carbon reduction, sustainable destination management, biodiversity conservation, community-based economic development, and the use of technology to support green tourism. The event will follow responsible event management principles, incorporating zero-waste practices, reduced paper usage through digital solutions, environmentally friendly materials, and initiatives that create value for local communities in line with international sustainability standards.
Hosting GSTC 2026 is expected to deliver broad benefits for Phuket and Thailand, generating economic circulation from international delegates, strengthening capacity among Thai tourism operators, and expanding international partnerships that support balanced and sustainable local development. The conference further reinforces Thailand’s value-driven tourism strategy, enhancing destination resilience, elevating industry standards, and positioning the country as a global leader in sustainable tourism.
