EVENT AND FESTIVAL : MAHUA MAHOTSAV’ IS AN EFFORT TO INTRODUCE TRIBAL CULTURE, ART AND CUISINE SAYS MINISTER VIJAY SHAH

BJOPAL, 7 JUNE 2024:

The eleventh anniversary celebration of the establishment of Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum, a concentration of tribal life, indigenous knowledge, tradition and aesthetics, started as ‘Mahua Mahotsav’. Minister Vijay Shah said that ‘Mahua Mahotsav’ is an effort to introduce tribal culture, art and cuisine. To make the social lifestyle and experience of the tribes real, the museum has been built by the tribal artists themselves instead of big architects. Tribal Affairs Minister Dr. Kunwar Vijay Shah inaugurated the five-day festival at Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum by lighting the lamp. Minister Shri Shah invited culture lovers and tourists from the state and the country to visit the Tribal Museum and attend ‘Mahua Mahotsav’.

Minister Mr. Shah also inaugurated the newly constructed tribal houses and iron craft in the museum. On this occasion, Director, Directorate of Culture, Mr. N P Namdev and Director, Tribal Folk Art and Dialect Development Academy, Dr. Dharmendra Pare, Curator of Tribal Museum, Mr. Ashok Mishra and other officers were present. At the tribal museum itself, the crafts and cuisine fair, puppet show for children and tribal dance performances began from 2 PM.

Newly Constructed Live Tribal Habitat:

Seven house of the major tribes of the state, Gond, Bhil, Baiga, Korku, Bharia, Sahariya and Kol have been built to understand and see the lifestyle of the tribal community closely. Families of different tribes will live in these houses. Visitors and tourists will also get an opportunity to see the cuisine and art of tribal communities through these accommodations. In these residences, granaries, cots, items for daily use and a kitchen have been specially kept.

Earth and music iron craft in tribes:

*Almost all the tribes of Madhya Pradesh believe that there was once a flood in this world. To take out the earth from the water, Mahadev asked the crow to find soil and bring it. Then life came on earth. First in the form of fish, then trees and plants. All music and dance originated from these trees and plants. Keeping the story of this nature at the centre, iron craft has been displayed.

On the first day of the festival, Malwa folk music was presented by Ms. Swati Ukhle and partner, Ujjain and Mr. Ajay Gangulia and partner, Ujjain. The second presentation Veerangana Rani Durgavati dance-drama was organized under the direction of Shri Ramchandra Singh, Bhopal. The presentation has been written by Mr. Yogesh Tripathi, Rewa. The dance-drama depicted the story of Queen Durgavati’s sacrifice, courage and bravery to protect the motherland.

*Skills of different states will be visible in the craft fair:

Crafts from different states are being displayed and sold in the crafts fair. Traditional craftsmen from five states have been invited to the fair, which includes bamboo, metal, textile, jewellery, lathe and other crafts. At the same time, in the cuisine fair, delicious dishes are being displayed and sold by chefs from Madhya Pradesh as well as Gujarat, Orissa and Manipur.

Performance of dances from other states:

Under the Mahua Mahotsav, folk music of Madhya Pradesh along with various dance performances from the states of Gujarat, Telangana, Orissa and Manipur will be organized every day from 6.30 pm from June 7 to 10, 2024.
