KOLKATA | 8 OCTOBER 2025

The remote western region of Rajasthan’s desert, Magra Tehsil (Shri Kolayat) in Bikaner, is home to the village dasodi, famously known as the “Little Kashi.” This village has produced several luminaries, including the renowned saint of Sanatan Dharma, Swami Shri Ramsukhdas Ji Maharaj, and the internationally honoured saint of Mauritius, the late Swami Krishnanand Ji Saraswati, an epitome of human service.

Dasodi, adorned with the footprints of such illustrious personalities, has also enriched the fields of literature, culture, and arts. On this sacred land, senior literary figure Jagdish Ratnoo from Dasodi (Shri Kolayat–Magra) has presented a remarkable example of connecting “Shri Kolayat, the tapasthali of Kapil Muni,” with “Gangasagar (Kolkata), the sacred site of Kapil Muni,” through a literary bridge, effectively demonstrating the principle of “wealth and knowledge acquired abroad.”

Jagdish Ratnoo is a senior, well-known literary figure and author from Rajasthan. He has published four books: Charan Samaj Ke GauravAkshar Akshar AagTriveni Tat, and Bharatiya Sanskriti, Dharma Aur Paryavaran Sanrakshan. Another book, Seva Se Siddhi Tak, is slated for publication soon. Professionally, he has served as a professor and worked for many years as secretary to Swami Krishnanand Ji. He has delivered lectures on national and international platforms. The city of Kolkata also honoured him with the Nani Gopal Chakraborty Award for creative writing on the international stage of the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad.

Jagdish Ratnoo’s writings and literary contributions are a vivid, holistic reflection of societal concerns and public sentiment. His pen demonstrates a deep connection with the common people. His literary contributions can be aptly summarized as: “May the literary light shine brightly in every land.”

According to Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo, Assistant Director of the Rajasthan Information Center, Kolkata, Jagdish Ratnoo will deliver a lecture at an international literary festival to be held in Kolkata this coming November. The event will feature eminent literary figures, poets, thinkers from across India, as well as linguists from Mauritius, Surinam, Fiji, and other countries.
