KOLKATA, 14 JUNE 2023:

Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India (Eastern Regional Office- Kolkata), in association with TAFI (Travel Agents Federation of India), HRAEI (Hotels and Restaurants Association of Eastern India), IATO (Indian Association of Tour Operators), TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India), ADTOI (Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India), TAAB (Travel Agents Association of Bengal) and ATSPB (Association of Tourism Service Providers of Bengal), is organizing a Blood Donation Camp on 14 June 2023, on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 2023.

The Camp will be organized at the Club House of Apsara Apartments, 67 Park Street, Kolkata from 11 am till 5 pm. The camp is being organized to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation and to recognize the contribution of voluntary unpaid blood donors in saving lives and improving health. 14 June is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner (1868-1943), an Austrian biologist and physician, considered to be the “founder” of modern blood transfusion, who also discovered the ABO blood groups.

Dr. Sagnik Choudhury, Deputy Director General (DDG) and Director ( East) of union Ministy of  Tourism, Mr. Sayak Nandi, Assistant Director of Ministry of Tourism, Kolkata, Mr. Anil Punjabi, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Federation of India, Mr. Manav Soni, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Mr. Debjit Dutta, Chairman (WB) of Indian Association of Tour Operators  and others  will also  be present. More than 150 people related to the travel and tourism industry of Kolkata are expected to donate blood today. For the event the organisers have tied up with Apollo Healthcare.

Every blood donation is a precious lifesaving gift and repeat donation is the key to building a safe and sustainable blood supply and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Access to safe and secure blood supply based on the voluntary non-remunerated donation is vital for management of accident and trauma victims, patients requiring surgeries, cancer patients, cases of bleeding during pregnancy and child birth, cases of anemia including those requiring life-long and regular blood transfusions for conditions such as Sickle Cell Anemia and Thalassemia etc. Voluntary non-remunerated plasma donations also play an important part in supporting patients with a wide range of long-term conditions such as Haemophilia and immune deficiencies.

All  are invited to attend the camp and donate precious, life- saving blood which will go a long way to enable India achieve Universal Health Coverage.
