Malaysia is set to host the Navatihi Utsavam – a jubilant celebration commemorating the 90th anniversary of the illustrious Telugu cinema industry with a line-up of star-studded Indian superstars and artists are expected to grace the red carpet at National Stadium, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur on 20 July 2024.
Organised by Mc Entertainment in collaboration with the esteemed Movie Artist Association (MAA) based in Hyderabad, Navatihi Utsavam 2024 has garnered international acclaim, with bids from other countries, including Dubai, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. As the chosen host country, Tourism Malaysia is proud to support this landmark event to raise Malaysia’s profile as a filming destination as it gears up to boost tourist arrivals in anticipation of the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Throughout the decades, Telugu cinema has consistently produced cinematic masterpieces that have captivated audiences not only in India but across the globe. Films like Bahubali 1 & 2, Puspa, and the recent accolade of Academy Award winner for Best Original Song – RRR (2023) – stand as testaments to the industry’s enduring creative excellence and lasting legacy.
Mr Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, expressed that Navatihi Utsavam 2024 transcends the mere celebration of Telugu cinema’s achievements, transforming into a platform for cultural diplomacy and international collaboration.
“Tourism Malaysia recognises this event as an opportunity to solidify the longstanding relationship between Malaysia and India, a bond that stretches over a century. Through cultural exchange and mutual appreciation, we aim to forge even deeper ties of friendship and understanding between our nations.”
More than 70,000 local and international spectators are anticipated to gather in Malaysia, with other proposed Telegu Creative Workshop and Youth Engagement Programme in the pipeline for this celebration of honouring the timeless legacy of Telugu cinema.
