FESTIVAL: ON THE AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF RAM NAVAMI: A GRAND CONFLUENCE OF FAITH, CULTURE, AND PROSPERITY IN ORCHHA AND CHITRAKOOT

On the sacred occasion of Ram Navami, grand celebrations are being organized across the state. The holy land of Lord Shri Ram, Chitrakoot, will celebrate a special “Gaurav Diwas” (Pride Day) illuminated by 2.2 million lamps.

The spiritually rich destinations of Orchha and Chitrakoot are emerging as new global centers of religious tourism.

Chitrakoot to Shine with 2.2 Million Lamps:

Ram Navami, which falls on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri, marks the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Ram and is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the state.

This year, the festival in Chitrakoot will be observed as “Chitrakoot Gaurav Diwas” on March 27. The entire sacred town will be illuminated with 22 lakh (2.2 million) lamps.

Extensive preparations are underway for this grand event. In the evening, a magnificent Deepdaan (lamp offering) will take place at the banks of the Mandakini River, including Ramghat, Bharatghat, and Kamadgiri Parikrama Path.

Rangoli decorations will adorn key locations, and various cultural programs will be organised .Local and folk artists will perform, with Bundelkhand’s traditional Diwari dance being a major highlight. A grand fireworks display is also planned to make the Ram Navami night even more spectacular.

New Dimensions in Development of Religious Cities:

The Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department and Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Dr. Ilaiyaraja T, stated that the board is making extensive arrangements to ensure grand celebrations of festivals and holistic development of religious towns.

He emphasized that these initiatives not only promote religious and cultural awareness but also boost tourism, strengthening the local economy and tourism industry.

Chitrakoot Dham: A Confluence of Faith, Culture, and Heritage:

Under the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, large-scale and well-planned development projects are progressing rapidly in Chitrakoot.

Through the Shri Ramchandra Van Gaman Path, the vision of holistic development of Chitrakoot is being realized. Key locations such as Bharatghat, Raghav Prayag Ghat, Hanuman Dhara, Mokamgarh Fort, Sati Anusuya Temple, Gupt Godavari, Mandakini Janaki Kund, Arogya Dham, Kamadgiri Parikrama, Pramod Van, Sphatik Shila, and Rajola ISBT are being prioritized under detailed development projects.

Celebrating Rich Cultural Heritage in Orchha:

In Orchha, the Prakatya Parv (Appearance Festival) is being organized in accordance with religious and mythological traditions to celebrate the birth of Lord Shri Ram.

The event will feature performances by Bundeli folk singer Muskan Prajapati, a dance-drama titled “Mandavi” directed by Ajay Arunkar (Bhopal), and devotional singing by Soumya Sharma from Vidisha.

Orchha Emerging as a Global Tourism Hub:

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is continuously expanding development in Orchha. Under the Ministry of Tourism’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, Orchha has been allocated an additional ₹25 crore.

Projects such as “Orchha – A Medieval Splendour 2.0” are being integrated to strengthen the state’s position on the global tourism map. The construction of Shri Ram Raja Lok is also progressing, with Phase 1 nearing completion and Phase 2 underway.

Development Works Under Shri Ram Raja Lok:

Various development works are actively underway under the Shri Ram Raja Lok project, including enhancement of temple premises, conservation of historical monuments, and construction of shops and dharamshalas (rest houses).

These initiatives will not only generate employment opportunities at the local level but also strengthen the local economy and provide a new direction to the tourism sector.
