“This is the third time visit in two years, to be back into this beautiful city and everytime the city always amazed me with its unique beauties and charms , but this visit is something that is more important and special to me, “ said Thai Ambassador to India, Ms. Pattarat Hongtong while inaugurating the three days Amazing Thailand Festival 2023 in Kolkata on Friday.
This is the first ever Thai Festival in this city that has been organised since the last three years after the covid -19 pandemic outbreak . She congratulated the three iron ladies of Thailand, who were present here for organising successfully such an Amazing Thai Festival and show in Kolkata.
“Thai festival is a trademark event to promote the amazingly fascinating Thailand natural beauty to the world . Not only in India, but in many many countries we have organised Thai festivals. Last year was an important year and we not only opened the country for the tourists as the covid subsided, but it also coincided with the celebrations of the 75 th year of diplomatic relationships between Thailand and India. We are showcasing Thailand to our young friends here in Kolkata,”Ms..Hongtong added.

“ The consul general of Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai have organised a series of activities to promote the close tie and the understandings of the people further. The volume of bilateral trade between the two countries has grown up to US$ 17.7 in 2022,” the ambassador of Thailand informed.
One million Indains visited Thailand last year. “This year we expect two million Indians visiting Thailand. The momentum will further increase as a lot of balanced activities are going on. This event is no doubt one of them,” she said.
The importance of India is immense to Thailand. Kolkata has played a crucial role to India – Thai relationship for years. Return of Thai students to Darjeeling and different schools of West Bengal. These are all good signs. We need to promote West Bengal as a hub of activities , tourism. We also have direct flights operating from North east and Thailand. Druk Air has direct flights from Guwahati and Bangkok.
Thailand is a country with a long history of culture, diverse geography and exotic natural beauty. The unique blend of these ingredients and contemporary modernisations Thailand is recognised as one of world’s most favourite tourism destinations and due to its strategic location is a part of the gateway to southeast asia.
Royal Thai Consulate General Kolkata, Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas said that after three years the Thai Festival is back in Kolkata and is even better this year. It will showcase Thailand’s wide range of activities. Kolkata plays a crucial role in the history of Indo- Thai relations. King Lama the 5 th stayed in Kolkata in 1872 for two weeks and the princess also visited Kolkata in 2014, she added.
Mrs. Siriges-A-Nong Trirattanasongpol, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand ( New Delhi), said that the The Thai Festival is a way to reconnect with the valuable potential Indian traveller in Kolkata and nearby areas. To leverage the five Fs of Thailand – Food, Festival, Fight, Fashion, Festival the event has been organised for the people of Kolkata.
“ In Thailand from street food stalls to Michelin star restaurants you have a lot of food to offer. Indian film actors and actresses visit Thailand and take pictures from beautiful locations. . Thailand has many festivals that you can enjoy all year round and many of them are similar to Indian festivals like Songran with diwali. Fashion is also fascinating from value for money to luxury. Weddings and Golf tourism in Thailand are also very much popular,”the TAT Director added.
There have been fashion shows, kick boxing shows, live cooking shows and stalls of Thai handicrafts in the venue. Several hundred people visited the stalls on the first day and purchased Thai items from the stalls and watched the shows.
