Siliguri has set a new record with the world record of fastest laparoscopic cholecystectomy  in an astonishing 3 minutes and 23 seconds on 20 May this year and is all set to boost medical tourism in the region further feels eminent tourism expert Mr. Raj Basu.

Dr. Ranjan Paul Chowdhury, a renowned surgeon from Siliguri, West Bengal, India, has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new world record for the fastest laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Dr. Chowdhury successfully performed the complex surgery in an astonishing 3 minutes and 23 seconds, breaking the previous record of 6 minutes and 12 seconds held by Dr. Ranbir Singh from Ludhiana, achieved on October 9, 2024.

This achievement has been recognized by the International Book of Records, a testament to Dr. Chowdhury’s exceptional skill, precision, and expertise in the field of laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a technically demanding procedure that requires great proficiency and attention to detail.

Dr. Chowdhury’s remarkable achievement is a demonstration of the advancements in surgical techniques and technology in Siliguri. The use of advanced techniques like indocyanine green fluorescent cholangiography (ICG-FC) has revolutionized the field of laparoscopic surgery. ICG-FC provides real-time visualization of the biliary anatomy, enabling surgeons to:

– Identify anatomical variations: Better visualization of the bile ducts and surrounding structures.

– Reduce complications: Minimize the risk of bile duct injuries and other complications.

– Enhance safety: Improve the overall safety of the procedure.

The integration of advanced technologies like ICG-FC has significantly improved the outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, making it a safer and more efficient procedure for patients.

Dr. Chowdhury’s achievement is a milestone in the field of laparoscopic surgery, and his dedication to excellence is an inspiration to medical professionals worldwide.

“Today, Siliguri gets more than 30% of her visitors through medical tourism.
