The demand for seats from Kolkata to Bangkok has been increasing day by day and that is why Thai Airways, the national air carrier of Thailand has introduced wide bodied aircrafts with more seats and Business class from 2 April, said Smt. Siriporn Tantipanyathep, Consul General of Royal Thai Consulate General in Kolkata on Saturday.
Smt. Siriporn Tantipanyathep was the chief guest of the Songkran festival – Water Journey to Thailand, Celebrate Songkran Fun at Pride Plaza Hotel in Newtown Rajarhat, jointly organized by Skal International Kolkata Chapter, Tourism Authority of India and supported by Air Asia, Spicejet and Pride Plaza Hotel.
“ The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata will organize a ten days Thai Food Festival , which will be held at Mayfair Lagoon In Bhubaneswar in the state of Odisha from 12 April 2024. From 1 April to 21 April,a three week long global water festival will be held at Bangkok in Thailand, but not only that this year throughout the world in all major cities Songkran will be organized by the Thai community,” said Smt. Siriporn Tantipanyathep.
There will be a lot of new attractions – including cheaper air fare, new shopping malls coming up, in fact South east Asia’s biggest shopping mall is coming up at Bangkok in the month of July 2024 and even new tourist destinations, islands will be promoted for the Indian travelers , she added.
She further said that about 28 million people visited Thailand last year and this year the target is 35 million. India is the fifth largest source market for Thailand Tourism. And Kolkata has very good connectivity and Bangkok is a much shorter air distance than the distant Indian cities from Kolkata.
Mrs. Siriges-a-nong Trirattanasongpol, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), New Delhi said that it is a great feeling to organize The Unesco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Songkran Festival of Bangkok in Thailand in the cultural capital of India, Kolkata.
“Kolkata and particularly eastern India is a key market for Tourism Authority of Thailand and I hope that with the introduction of the wide bodied aircrafts from this month will further boost the travel and tourism sector during the Songkran Festival celebrations,’she added.
Mr. Amin Ashgar, President of Skal International Kolkata said that Bangkok has virtually become the second home for the tourists of Kolkata. Tourists from Kolkata and Eastern India travel to various locations of Thailand repeatedly, he added.
Mr. Manav Soni, Chairman of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Eastern India said that Thailand is a popular destination for luxury wedding, family, MICE, golf tourism etc. “ Thailand is in fact an all season tourism destination and historically attached to us,”he added.
Mr. Pichaya Lapasthamrong, Consul of Royal Thai Consulate General, Kolkata, C. Pattabhi, Director of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport Kolkata, Mr. Aso Lori, marketing executive of TAT, New Delhi, Ms. Vaishali Sharma, marketing executive of Tat, New Delhi, Mr Sajid Ahmed Khan, marketing head ( east) of Thai Airways , Avijit Sarkar, secretary of Skal International Kolkata were also present.
The event was organized at the poolside of Pride Plaza Hotel in the evening . Everybody has enjoyed the fun filled evening with music and tastes of Thai Food.
