It is established in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. It was earlier known as ‘Saraswati Pattam’. It was constructed in the 9-10th century by the Guru Purandar of King Avantivarman to teach Shaivaism. This is an ancient monastery

This is an ancient monastery which is also considered as Saraswati temple. Surrounded by huge walls like a fort, this monastery has a room made of huge rock blocks which was used for the residence and study of teachers and students.The carvings and workmanship on the walls of this fort are the finest examples of Hindu architecture.

Suravaya fort is an ancient fort. The site reflects the historical importance of the area and is often known for the architectural wonders of bygone eras. The fort displays intricate carvings and stonework, indicative of the skilled craftsmanship prevalent at that time

The group of temples dates back to the 10th-11th century. Inside it, the fort hosts a group of temples and monasteries. Another idol here is of Lord Shiva along with Vishnu idol and Nandi idol.The temples themselves are known for their numerous sculptures, depicting mythological stories. This temple is actually dedicated to Lord Shiva, and faces west.

The art and architecture of the temple is magnificent, the fort is actually an auditorium made entirely of stone. The echoes of dance, singing and music still echo in the auditorium.

Surawaya fort is no less than a storehouse of architectural talent and cultural richness. This is a hidden jewel of heritage in Madhya Pradesh .
