KOLKATA, 5 AUGUST 2023:

State urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim has informed that the Jaganaath Temple built at a cost of Rs.143 crores will be inauguarted next year and the West Bengal assembly.

Once completed the Jagannath Temple at Digha , which will be a replica of the world famous Puri Jagannath Temple  will be a star religious tourism  attraction.

The Jaganatth Temple at Digha is being constructed by the Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO).

About three months ago, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose branshild is the Jagannath Temple at Digha visited and inspected the progress of the work.

The West Bengal government has been developing the surrounding places in the religious tourism destinations to further baoost the tourism in the state.

Religious Tourism is one of the main sectors the West Bengal Toursim Department has been focussing to boost tourism.

State tourism Minister Babul Supriyo, WBTDC chairman Indranil Sen and tourism department principal secretary, Nandini Chakraborty all are working together to achieve the target and objectives of the chief minister Mamata Banerjee to boost tourism.

The project was announced in 2018 and the work started in 2022. Digha Shankarpur Development Authority has handed over 20 acres of land for setting up the Jagannath Temple.

The height of the temple is 213 feet and and the famous standstones of Rajasthan’s famous Banshi Hills have been used to construct this Jagnannth Temple.

There will be light and sound shows, besides a huge fountaion in the temple complex. The surrounding area will have beautification work done by the Digha Shankarpur Development Authority.

The upcoming temple is located near Digha Railway Station, making the Jagannath Temple  well connected by both road and railway network.
