LATEST NEWS : UNESCO DELEGATION VISITS GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM COMPLEX

KOLKATA,8 JUNE 2024:

The Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO organized a visit for a delegation of 20 UNESCO member states to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) complex.

The visit took place on the sidelines of their visit to Egypt to benefit from the Egyptian experiment regarding the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB), benefit from it, and circulate it to the rest of the organization’s member states.

The delegation started its visit to the museum by inspecting the “grand foyer”, the grand staircase, the commercial area, and the exterior gardens. The great staircase is just beyond the atrium features one of Egypt’s greatest kings; Senwosret I, the second king of the 12th Dynasty (1971 BC to 1926 BCE).

They also listened to an explanation about the most prominent antiquities in the GEM, which will be made available to the public after the official opening of the museum.

The delegation watched some distinguished performances that showed the ancient Egyptian civilization and the great creativity of the ancient Egyptian.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour had received delegations from 20 member states of UNESCO at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

During their meeting, Ashour underlined the importance of the EKB initiative and its leading role in improving the classification of Egyptian universities, institutions and research centers at the international level.

Later, many fruitful discussion sessions were held to transfer the considerable Egyptian experience in the EKB to the rest of the member states to benefit from and spread it with the view to exchanging experiences between countries.

The delegations of UNESCO member states currently visiting Egypt are representatives of (Bahrain – Uruguay – China – United Arab Emirates – Jordan – Bangladesh – Chile – India – Indonesia – Kenya – Lebanon – Liberia – Libya – Malaysia – Malta – Mauritius – Sultanate of Oman – Syria – Tanzania – Uganda).
