
*State Government Committed to Preservation and Restoration of the Pink City in Line with UNESCO Guidelines – Chief Secretary

Jaipur, 4 February. Calling the recognition of Pink City Jaipur as a UNESCO World Heritage City a special achievement for the state, the Chief Secretary directed all concerned officials to ensure that every activity related to conservation and restoration is carried out strictly in accordance with UNESCO-prescribed guidelines. He said the state government is working with complete seriousness and commitment to fulfill the responsibilities and mandate associated with UNESCO status.
At a meeting held in the Secretariat on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas, the progress of works required under the UNESCO World Heritage City status was reviewed, with emphasis placed on adopting a “whole-of-government approach.” Detailed discussions were held on inter-departmental coordination, time-bound implementation, and ensuring shared responsibility among all agencies.

The Chief Secretary instructed a joint team from the Tourism Department, the Local Self-Government Department, and the Urban Development Department to inspect the Pink City and finalize an action plan. He also directed that cleanliness be maintained in the walled city area and that banners, advertisements, and temporary encroachments that affect the city’s appearance be removed. He stressed that illegal elements should be cleared through regular monitoring, especially at heritage gates and major roads. District- and zone-level officers were also instructed to strictly enforce rules to preserve the dignity of the heritage zone.

Directing all concerned departments to adhere strictly to prescribed timelines, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the Special Area Heritage Plan being prepared for Walled City Jaipur. It was reported that work is underway on various components, including the base map, socio-economic profile, livelihoods, tourism, transport and mobility, disaster management, environment and landscape, and the legislative and management framework.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Public Works Department) and Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Shri Praveen Gupta, Principal Secretary (Urban Development and Housing) Dr. Debashish Prishti, Secretary (Local Self-Government) Shri Ravi Jain, along with senior officials from the Tourism, Local Self-Government, Urban Development departments, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, and other related agencies.
