“Pollachi , in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district stands as a shining example of how agriculture and tourism can come together to create sustainable livelihoods and unforgettable visitor experiences. Known as the Coconut Capital of Tamil Nadu, this fertile region is blessed with lush green farmlands, traditional farming practices and the majestic backdrop of the Western Ghats.
As Tourism Minister, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the immense agro-tourism potential of Pollachi, from sprawling coconut and banana plantations to organic farming methods and farm-to-table experiences that celebrate our rural heritage.

Agro-tourism not only offers travelers a chance to reconnect with nature, but also empowers our farmers by creating new income avenues. Visitors can experience traditional village life, participate in farming activities, enjoy local cuisine prepared from fresh produce, explore cattle farms, taste tender coconut straight from the grove and stay in eco-friendly farm stays.

This model of tourism promotes:
Sustainable travel
Rural entrepreneurship
Women self-help groups
Youth employment
Direct farmer-tourist engagement
Pollachi has the potential to emerge as a national model for agro-tourism, showcasing how tourism can be inclusive, responsible and rooted in our cultural values.
Let us continue to strengthen rural tourism, celebrate our farming community,” posted union minister of Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in his official X handle..
