The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief and shock over the tragic incident in Ahmedabad today. He stated that the tragedy has stunned and saddened the nation and described it as heartbreaking beyond words.
Mr. Narendra Modi said that he has been in continuous communication with Ministers and relevant authorities to ensure swift and effective assistance to those impacted.
In a post on X, he wrote:
“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected.”
241 out of 242 passengers on board of Air India flight AI171 Boeing flight from Ahmedabad to London has been killed an clash today, including former chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, British, Canadian and Indian nationals. The flight lost control just after its take off and crashed within a minute from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, civil aviation minister , Ram Mohan Naidu have all reached Ahmedabad. Civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu termed the incident shocking and said there will be full investigations and no one will be spared. Sources said that USA will assist India in the plane crash investigations.
The Boeing 787 dreamliner was operating in the Ahmedabad – Gatwick route and was loaded with fuel during the time of the crash leading to such huge explosion. 232 passengers and 10 crew members were on board at the time of the crash. The pilot had huge experience and had over 8000 hours of flying experiences, sources said. Both the pilot and the co pilot had huge experiences, but could not save due to the technical snag, it is assumed.
All flight operations were stopped at Ahmedabad airport after the crash and flight services resumed after few hours. Dedicated helpline numbers have been announced by MoCA – 011-24610843| 9650391859.
DGCA, AAI, Air India, NDRF jawans are assisting the rescue operations at the crash site.
The entire crash episode after take- off has been captured in the CCTV footage of the airport.
