Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced holding for the first time a month long New Delhi shopping festival from next year like in Dubai.
Tourists from all over the globe travel to Dubai, most populous city of United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the world famous Dubai Expo and Shopping Festivals. This shopping festival provides a huge boost to the tourism industry in the middle east.
The first edition of the New Delhi shopping festival will be held from 28 January to 26 February next year.
“ On the inaugural year it will be the biggest shopping festival in the country and within the next few years we promise to make it the biggest shopping festival of the world,” announced Arvind Kejriwal.
The NEW Delhi chief minister has also urged the various state government and other countries to participate and make it a grand success. The state government is trying get discounts in airfares to attract further shopaholics and in the monthlong shopping festival the national capital will have a facelift for the occasion andexhibitions will be held all across New Delhi.
The shopping festival is expected to boost the city’s economy, and will help the local venders, traders and business man, the CM claimed.
Talks are going on with various airline operators for providing special packages during the month long shopping carnival. Discussions are also going on with the travel agents and hotels.
There will be an opening and closing ceremony, heavy discounts on all items, exhibitions of games and technologies, 200 live concert in one month, special food walks etc.
The Delhi CM also added that this month long shopping carnival will provide employment opportunity to over 1000 people.
In a video statement the CM has already unveiled his dream New Delhi Shopping Festival.
For the shopping festival the national capital will be divided into five zones – North, south, east, west and central. They will host different components of the shopping festival. 15 iconic markets and 10 shopping malls will host the festival spread over the five zones.
The cost of hosting the shopping festival will be around Rs.250 crores.
More than 20,000 people will watch the opening ceremony which will also be telecasted live on television channels.
Already the government has planned to undertake large scale beautification drive in local schools, colleges, hospitals, parks, monuments, buildings, metro and railway stations, airports etc.
The Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) with the motto – One World, One family and One Festival started in 16 February 1996.
It has been since then (except 2006) an annual month long event organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), which is a part of Dubai Tourism Department.
The next edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival will be held from 15 December 2022 to 29 January 2023.
