Indeed, the skies on the pleasant December morning of 10th saw colourful balloons being heralded into the skies, to sing in the 9th Annual Sports day of Delhi Public School Durgapur.
On this day, the spectators witnessed the future sports persons, all giving their best from Pre-Primary to Senior Secondary.
The day started off with the school choir presenting the song ‘Believer’ echoing the call of the day- believe yourself. The unfurling of the sports flag and declaration of the Annual Sports Day open by the Chief Guest, Ms Sima Dutta Chatterjee , the winner of 6 gold medals in Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship 2022 , the honourable SDO of Durgapur , Dr Sourav Chatterjee as the Guest of Honour and other dignitaries from Kolkata.
The march past is the pride of every sports day and so was it for Dipsites. Voiced by the Head Boy and the Head Girl of the school, the students presented a commendable and disciplined march past. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the Inter-House March Past, a highly competitive event where the four houses eyed for the first place, followed by the Torch Run by students, who won laurels for DPS Durgapur in sports followed by oath being administered by the athletes.
The tiny tots of Pre-Primary Classes put up a spectacular show, by presenting the mascots of various 2022, International Sports Meets, tableau from different states and foot-tapping drills. Nehru stadium glowed with the presence of the scouts of Bulbuls and the vibrant participants of the four school houses – Ganga , Kaveri, Chenab and Teesta. The drills with sticks by classes 2-4, with dumb bell by classes 4-8, shape semblance dance by senior classes and the most awaited show- Karate made the day exciting and interesting.
In his message, the Principal of the school, Sri. Umesh Ch. Jaiswal reiterated the importance of being active in sports. The Pro-VC of the OmDayal Group of Institutions, Sri Alok Tibrewal thanked the Chief Guest for her presence and the parents for being the constant source of support. The Chief Guest appreciated the school management for providing quality education and also congratulated the school for organising events where 100 percent participation of all the students is encouraged.
Some of the sports events which marked the day were, Cone race, flower Race, Tiffin Box relay, cap race,bucket race,75, 100, 200, 400 and 800 mtrs. sprint, relay races, long jump and short put, 75 mtrs. Master DPS and Miss DPS to name a few. Besides, there were events for the teachers, staff and parents as well.
The winners were applauded through awards like Best March Past, Best House Enclosure, The Most Disciplined House and Champions Trophy along with the Best Male and Female Athlete. The sincere dedication and the commitment of the teaching and non-teaching staff, the tremendous effort of the students and their enthusiasm was highlighted in the Vote of Thanks, by Ms. Enakshi Dutta. She said that amalgamation of these only makes a day a success. The toil, the dreams, the challenges, the hopes and the aspirations, all saw a wonderful culmination at the end of this Mega Day with the National Anthem.
