YUGANTAR PUBLIC SCHOOL, RAJNANDGAON AND SUSHILA BIRLA GIRLS SCHOOL KOLKATA WINS THE CBSE CLUSTER – II BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT, 2022

The greatest and most beautiful part of any endeavour is its accomplishment and 04 December, 2022 came sweetest to YUGANTAR PUBLIC
SCHOOL, RAJNANDGAON and SUSHILA BIRLA GIRLS’ SCHOOL, KOLKATA as they emerged the champions of the CBSE CLUSTER – II BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT, 2022 in the boys’ and girls’ Under-19 category.

The day began with the semi-finals played among the teams and there were really some scintillating moments. Notable wins included Yugantar Public School, Rajnandgaon defeating Krishna Public School, Raipur by a good margin of 66 to 33 in the boys’ category.

The valedictory ceremony witnessed the presence of Mr.  Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam,  Commissioner of Police, Asansol-  Durgapur Police Commissionerate as the esteemed Chief Guest. Other dignitaries and guests to have graced the ceremony include Mr. Achinta Kumar Dey, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AP); Mr. Prosenjit Roy, Officer-in-Charge, Hirapur Police Station; Mr. M. E Samshi, Chief General Manager (BE), SAIL-ISP, Burnpur; Mr.Subrata Chattopadhyay, Founder Director & Principal, Purv International School, Durgapur & Treasurer SSC, WB Chapter; Mr.S.K Mago, Secretary, Burnpur Riverside School Educational Society and Member, Managing Committee, BRS, Burnpur; Mr. K. K Basu, Chairman, Managing Committee, BRS, Chittaranjan & Member, BRSES and Smt. Kuljit Kaur, Principal, Burnpur Riverside School, Chittaranjan & Member, Managing Committee, BRS, Burnpur.

The four day tournament was inaugurated by Mr. S.Arun Prasad, DM of Paschim Bardhaman, Mr. Sushil Kumar Sinha, Director and Principal of Burnpur Riverside School was present during all four days.  This year 21 boys teams and 11 girls teams are participating in the basketball tournament from three states – Odisha, Chattisgarah and West Bengal.

In his address, Mr. Sudheer Kumar expressed his delight to be amidst players and teams which, he was confident of, would be representing India in the future. He hoped that more tournaments of such repute would be played in Asansol in the near future. Recalling his school days, the Commissioner of Police said that during his school days he used to play volleyball despite being tall and urged all the participating students to maintain the true sportsmanship spirit throughout their lives.

The finals were played between Yugantar Public School, Rajnandgaon and Vikash, The Concept School, Sambalpur in the boys’ category; and Sushila Birla Girls’ School, Kolkata and DAV Model School, Durgapur in the girls’ category.

Eventually, it was Yugantar Public School, Rajnandgaon (Boys’ team) winning the finals by 80 to 20 and Sushila Birla Girls’ School, Kolkata (Girls’ team) earning their victory by 49 to 04.

The boys’ team of Vikash Residential School, Bargarh and the girls’ team of G.D. Goenka Public School, Siliguri were adjudged the 2nd Runners-up of the tournament.

Rohan Kumar Patel of Vikash Residential School, Bargarh and Ipshita Pugalia of Sushila Birla Girls’ School, Kolkata were adjudicated the Players of the Tournament.

The 4-day tournament came to an end with the lowering of the CBSE and School flags and the ubiquitous singing of the National Anthem.
