Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared pictures in his official twitter account of the stunning pictures of the first look of the new integrated terminal building of Chennai (MAA) Airport, the first phase of which will be inaugurated by him this Saturday.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi said that the new state of the art Integrated Terminal Building at Chennai Airport will be an important addition to Chennai’s infrastructure. Shri Modi also added that it will boost connectivity and also benefit the local economy.

In a   tweet thread, the Ministry of Civil Aviation informed that the first phase of the new state of the art Integrated Terminal Building at Chennai Airport is set to be inaugurated by  PM Shri Narendra Modi on 8th April 2023.


Replying to the tweet by Ministry of Civil Aviation; the Prime Minister tweeted;

“This will be an important addition to Chennai’s infrastructure. It will boost connectivity and also benefit the local economy.”

“The new integrated terminal building at #ChennaiAirport, spanning an area of 2,20,972 sqm., is set to cater to the growing air traffic in the state of Tamil Nadu. It’s also a reflection of the govt.’s commitment towards providing high-quality infrastructure to travellers.


The first phase of the new state-of-the-art Integrated Terminal Building at #ChennaiAirport is set to be inaugurated by Hon’ble PM Sh.@narendramodi  on 8th April 2023.


With the annual passenger handling capacity of 35 Million passengers per annum, the modern facility at the #ChennaiAirport will improve air travel experiences for all.,” tweets the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

About Rs. 2467 crores will be spend for the two phases of the integrated terminal building construction. Take off and landing of 45 aircrafts can be handled in one hour.

The integrated terminal building will have  80 check-in counters, eight self-check-in counters, six self-baggage drop counters and 108 immigration counters. Draped in art and culture of Tamil Nadu, the  terminal floor is adorned with traditional kolams and the false ceiling has a distinctive pattern of the folds of a saree.

“The new terminal is a striking reflection of the local Tamil culture, incorporating traditional features such as the Kolam (a pattern or design drawn in front of South Indian homes), Saree, Temples, and other elements that highlight the natural surroundings,” says MoCA.
