With the inswing of Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, lot of passengers used to travel to unite with the rest of their family members during the festive season. To cater to the need of the passengers adequately and to mitigate the festive rush, Eastern Railway has taken comprehensive measures for crowd management as well as running more & more special trains for comfortable home return of the intending passengers.
The focus has been laid on augmentation capacity by running more number of trains and crowd management by deploying manpower and suitable infrastructure. This year a total of 102 special trains with as many as 876 trips are running in Eastern Railway to cater to the festive rush. Among these, 50 trains belongs to Eastern Railway with 400 trips and others are primarily run by other Railways running/terminating in Eastern Railway. Trains are running to various popular directions from Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata, Asansol, Malda and Bhagalpur stations of Eastern Railway like Raxaul, Khatipura, Lucknow, Jaynagar, Patna, Anand Vihar Terminal, Pune, Haridwar etc. most of these trains not only have sleeper class but also general second class coaches to fulfil the need of the common passengers.
Capacity augmentation – Record Number of 50 Special Trains of Eastern Railway for Diwali and Chhath PUJA:
It has been seen that Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol, Malda, Kolkata & Bhagalpur are the most passengers stations of Eastern Railway during Diwali & Chhat festivals. Accordingly, 50 special trains of Eastern Railway has been distributed among these major stations for to & fro journey to various corners of the country. These trains are in addition to other regular services.
4 pairs of trains are originating from/terminating at Howrah, 4 pairs at Sealdah, 7 pairs at Asansol, 2 pairs at Kolkata, 2 pairs at Bhagalpur, 6 pairs at Malda with the total capacity of 400 trips.
The number of special trains of Eastern Railway and the total trips notified so far for Diwali & Chhat festival is much higher than that of the previous year’s notification with 33 special trains and 113 trips in 2023.
Deployment of staff at stations for Passengers’ Assistance:
RPF staff has been deployed at all major stations over Eastern Railway to guide the passengers boarding or deboarding smoothly. RPF staff are also counselling the passengers regarding various measures to be taken for safe journey like not to take food from strangers, not to travel in foot board, not to travel with fire crackers or explosive items etc.
Frequent announcements are being made through public address system at different stations to alert the passengers regarding approaching/departing trains.
Availability of amenities and services:
The passenger amenities at different stations are being properly monitored by the branch officers. Cleanliness has been stepped up, drinking water facility is being monitored. Mobile charging points, May I Help You Booth at different stations are also available for the passengers in need.
Eastern Railway remains dedicated to bring the smile among the passengers with all round facility for their comfortable home return during Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals.
