Durga Puja season has just passed but the festive season is not over yet. Diwali and Chhath festivals are coming. A lot of people who are working in and around West Bengal or in Eastern Railway network having their native town or village at a distant place might be eager to unite with their family members to enjoy the festivity of Diwali and Chhath. To facilitate easier movement of the persons intending to travel to unite with their family members during Diwali and Chhath festivals, a total of 952 trips of Special trains will be available in Eastern Railway network. Among these, 301 trips will be available on the occasion of Diwali between 05.10.2025 and 20.10.2025, 144 trips of Special Trains will be available between 21.01.2025 and 27.10.2025 for Chhath and in post-Chhath period 507 trips of Special trains will be available between 28.10.2025 and 30.11.2025 so that all the passengers migrated during Diwali and Chhath may return to their desired destination comfortably.
This Diwali and Chhath Special Trains starts their journey from  different important stations like Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata station, Asansol and Malda Town towards different places throughout the country viz Raxaul, Patna, Gorakhpur, New Jalpaiguri, Digha, Madhubani, Lumding, Maltipatpur, Charlapalli, Anand Vihar Terminal, Lucknow, Khatipura, Vododara, Udhna. Lakhs of berths and seats are generated by running these special trains for more comfortable accommodation of passengers.
Apart from running of the Special Trains, Eastern railway is also taking crowd control measures during Chhath and Diwali this year so that the intending passengers face no inconvenience for boarding or alighting the trains from different stations. Holding area has been identified at important stations to reduce the rush of passengers at the station platform, Officers and Supervisors are deployed round-the-clock at stations and Control Rooms for monitoring the situation, Scouts & Guides and Civil Defence Volunteers are kept ready for helping and assisting the passengers, strict monitoring of punctuality of Special Trains are going on, increased number of security personnel have been deployed at several stations for crowd control and looking after the security aspect, passenger amenities at different stations are being monitored strictly so that the basic amenities like drinking water, food etc are available to the passengers.
Eastern Railway is in all out endeavour for a pleasant journey experience for the passengers during festive season. However, passengers are advised not to indulge in any activities which affect the safety and security of Railway operations as well as of themselves. It is advised please do not carry any inflammable articles during journey, do not lean out from the train compartment, do not pass through Railway track at station and other areas – only use Foot Overbridge (FOB) or other designated places for this purpose and above all, maintain cleanliness at Railway station premises.
