Today PrimeMinister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation various railway projects worth over ₹1,400 crore at an event held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. These projects will particularly benefit the districts of Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad in North Gujarat. They will make a significant contribution to regional connectivity, industrial growth, logistics efficiency, and employment generation.
Among the projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister were:
- Doubling of the Mehsana–Palanpur railway line (65 km) at a cost of ₹537 crore
- Gauge conversion of the Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road line (37 km) at a cost of ₹347 crore
- Gauge conversion of the Becharaji–Ranuj line (40 km) at a cost of ₹520 crore
These projects will provide seamless, safe, and efficient connectivity through broad-gauge rail lines, especially in the districts of Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Patan. This will make travel easier and faster for daily commuters, tourists, and businesses while also fostering regional economic integration. With the additional line capacity, faster train operations on the Ahmedabad–Delhi route will become possible. This will pave the way for more passenger trains and enhance the speed and efficiency of freight trains, thereby energizing Gujarat’s economic activities.
The gauge conversion of the Becharaji–Ranuj railway line has been undertaken in line with the National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multimodal Connectivity. Its objective is to reduce logistics costs and further improve Gujarat’s ranking in the Logistics Performance Index. This initiative by Prime Minister Modi will accelerate the socio-economic development of North Gujarat while setting a new benchmark in India’s logistics and railway sector.
In addition, the Prime Minister flagged off a new passenger train service between Katosan Road and Sabarmati (via Kadi) and inaugurated a car-loaded freight train service from Becharaji. The new Katosan–Sabarmati passenger service will not only improve access to tourist and religious destinations but will also boost local economic activities. Similarly, the car-loaded freight train from Becharaji will provide strong connectivity to the state’s industrial zones, expanding the logistics network and creating new employment opportunities.
Both these railway services will provide the region with an eco-friendly, sustainable, and high-speed transport option, reducing travel time while significantly boosting regional industrial development, investment, and job creation.
Together, these railway projects will pave the way from a Developed Gujarat to a Developed India.
