KOLKATA, 27 OCTOBER 2024 :
In a bid to make this festive season memorable and hassle-free for travelers, Indian Railways has rolled out an elaborate arrangement of special trains, enhanced infrastructure, and stringent safety protocols, ensuring a delightful journey for all.
To facilitate smooth travel during the festive season of Diwali and Chhat, Railways will run special Trains on Demand (TOD) from 30th October 2024 to 6th November 2024. A Video Conference (VC) chaired by the Member of Operations and Business Development (MOBD) was held on 23rd October 2024 to ensure robust planning and coordination. Key measures were discussed to guarantee passenger convenience, safety, and punctuality during the festive rush.
*Action Plan and Key Measures for Special Trains (TOD Specials)*:
1) *Round-the-Clock Deployment*:
Officers and supervisors from Operating, Commercial, Mechanical, and Railway Protection Force (RPF) departments will be deployed at stations and control rooms during peak days to monitor and manage operations.
2) *Complaint Monitoring*:
Complaints registered on RAIL MADAD (Mobile Application for Desired Assistance During travel) and other platforms will be monitored closely. Priority will be given to addressing issues related to watering, charging, pre-cooling, and other maintenance.
3) *Punctuality Management*:
TOD Specials’ punctuality will be closely monitored.
Freight trains may be regulated to ensure the smooth movement of passenger trains. Coaching locomotives will be deployed to the extent possible to maintain punctuality.
4) *Station Announcements and Platform Management*:
Proper announcements through the Public Address (PA) system at all stations will be ensured. Platform nominations will be confirmed in advance to avoid confusion. Any platform changes post-announcement will be made only in case of an emergency.
5) *Augmentation of Coaches*:
Additional coaches will be added as per feasibility to accommodate passenger demand.
6) *Ticketing Systems*:
Smooth functioning of Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), and Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (MUTS) will be ensured at all stations.
7) *CCTV Surveillance*:
All vulnerable locations will have functional Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, with live feeds monitored in control rooms.
8) *Entry and Exit Management*:
Manning of entry and exit gates will be ensured at major stations.
Scouts, Guides, and Civil Defense volunteers will assist passengers at busy locations.
9) *Catering and Passenger Amenities*:
Adequate catering services will be available at major stations, including Janta Khana (affordable meals).
Wheelchairs will be made available in sufficient numbers for elderly and differently-abled passengers. Licensed porters (coolies) will be available, and strict action will be taken against overcharging.
10) *Safety Measures*:
RPF personnel and ticket-checking staff will ensure that no inflammable materials are carried in trains. Passengers will be directed to holding areas if platforms become overcrowded.
Rooftop travel will be strictly prohibited.
11) *Contingency Planning*:
A spare rake will be stationed at a suitable location to address any contingencies.
Indian Railways is committed to providing safe and comfortable journeys during the festive season. Passengers are requested to cooperate with railway authorities and follow the guidelines to ensure a smooth travel experience.
